OUR FIRST DISCUSSION SERIES

When Doc had the brilliant idea to hold a community forum for the Lee County area, I couldn't help but be reminded of my favorite show, Parks and Recreation. The show focuses around the Parks Department of a town in Indiana named Pawnee. Much like our organization, the department is headed by a quirky self-motivated work enthusiast who is wildly supported and loved by not only the entire department, but by the community at large. As apart of her job, the deputy director, Leslie Knope, hosts public forums to hear from the local citizens. Leslie knows that the importance of a successful community is collaboration and cooperation. Without the support of its citizens, this government department, much like our volunteer organization would cease to exist.

So just as the Parks Department did in Pawnee, we will open our doors and our ears to the community on January 17th for our first public discussion series. We hope to hear how we as an organization can really dive deeper into the Lee County Area. We want the Layman Group name to resonate with Lee County, and for that we need to hear from its citizens.
