MY GIVING PROMISE

Those of you who keep up with all things TLG remember that I made a promise back in November to begin "setting the example" when it comes to celebrating the opportunity to give to the Arts. More specifically, I promised to make a small contribution, each month, to an Arts organization, company, or artist - outside of The Layman group.

As Director of a nonprofit Arts organization, I continually find myself drowning in the focus of fundraising. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it shouldn't keep me from remembering to step back and participate in the very action I'm working so hard to spark. And even though I'm not in the position to make large contributions (by any means), even the small contributions that I am able to make mean a great deal. I know this first hand.

Last month, my contribution went to Dance Truck out of Atlanta, Ga. This month, it goes to another dance company, but on the other side of the country. L.A. Contemporary Dance Company is a truly ambitious, authentic company. I've been keeping up with them every since seeing a spec commercial they shot for Converse (or Addidas). But, I really become a fan when I got to watch their Open Company Rehearsals live from my bedroom in Alabama (gotta love technology). I tune in every time they stream live. I also love the fact that the dancers actually took the time out to talk to me on the livestream during and after their rehearsals. Pretty cool.

Their chemistry and energy is amazing, and their Artistic Director, Kate Hutter, is brilliant. I can't wait to be able to make it out west and see a live show. The great thing, is that now, I get to go as a patron!
