UICON : FASHION DESIGN MENTORSHIP PROJECT
ABOUT UICON
UICON, our first experimentation within the fashion medium, is a creative mentorship project bringing together selected Alabama youth and fashion design mentors/teachers. The project strives to:
(1) Highlight the purely artistic aesthetics of fashion design craft, and...
(2) utilize the full scope of the fashion design craft (from education to production) in showing its positive influence on the character, confidence, and independent spirit of our youth.
The mentors/teachers will work closely with the UICON youth participants in providing inspiration and instruction in fashion design basics and techniques. Our goals is to document the personal one-on-one relationship between mentor and student as to gain an intimate perspective on the student's expressive and independent progress during the mentorship process. In the end, the project becomes just as much about the dialogue between mentor and student, as well as the student's character development, than it is about the final fashion product. The UICON project will be open to two participants (male or female) from the state of Alabama and between the ages of 13-17. Participants will be selected through a in-house selection process implemented by the TLG staff. Our main objective is to find those potential participants who we feel would best benefit from both the challenge and intrinsic rewards of the UICON experience. The project will culminate with a fashion show and public discussion highlighting the participant's work and experience. Participation in the project will be reserved for current Alabama residents.
PARTICIPANT INTERVIEWS
On SATURDAY - JANUARY 28TH from 11am - 1pm, we will be holding casual interviews in search of potential youth participants for our Uicon fashion design mentorship project at our downtown Auburn loft office. We are looking for youth between the ages of 13-17 for this challenging creative project. It is NOT our main goal to find individuals with a natural talent (or a even a passion) for fashion design. Rather, we are focused in finding young individuals who could truly benefit from being provided with a creative outlet for developing their character, confidence, and independence.
Parents and/or gaurdians should attend the interview sessions with potential participants. Forms and project information will be available at the interview. There is no need to schedule a time slot for your interview. For questions or further information email us at projects@thelaymangroup.org
